Marguerite Lynn Williams~ Harp Instruction
2006-2007 Studio Policies
1. All
lessons must be paid for one month at a time, on or before the first lesson of
the month, and according to the following rates:
1
Hour-$50 45 min.-$40 30 min.-$35
2. If lessons are terminated by the
student, parent or teacher before the end of the month, payment will not be
reimbursed.
3. If payment is not received within
thirty (30) days of the first lesson of the month, the regularly scheduled
lesson time will be forfeited and possibly assigned to other current students
or the next student on the waiting list.
4. There will
be a $30 fee for all checks returned by the bank for any reason, in addition to
reimbursement for the original amount of the check.
5. Students
and parents will please observe the following policies regarding absence
notification, rescheduling and make-up lessons:
v
Students (or
parents) must contact the teacher more than 24 hours in advance to request a
rescheduled or make-up lesson at no additional charge.
v
Same day as
lesson absence notification is acceptable for rescheduling lessons ONLY in
cases of illness or emergency, and must be in the form of a phone call as soon
as possible and prior to the original lesson time.
v
Email is not
an acceptable method of contact on the same day as the lesson.
v
Students (or
parents) will still be charged for cancelled lessons when less than 24 hours
notice is given – except in cases of illness or emergency and at the discretion
of the teacher.
v
Lessons will
NOT be rescheduled unless more than 24 hours advance notice of absence is given
by the student/parents.
v
Missed
lessons can only be rescheduled or made-up within thirty (30) days.
v
If a
scheduled make-up lesson is missed, cancelled, or not made-up within thirty
(30) days, a second make-up lesson will not be offered.
v
Rescheduled
or make-up lessons will be arranged at the discretion of the teacher.
6, Consistent
attendance at lessons is expected.
Students who are habitually tardy, absent, or unprepared will be dropped
from lessons if the situation does not improve after a one month warning
period. The student’s regularly
scheduled lesson time will be forfeited and possibly assigned to other current
students or the next student on the waiting list.
7. I
want each of my students to enjoy themselves as they learn to play the
harp. In my experience students who
practice regularly outside of their lesson are the ones who enjoy playing the
harp the most. Therefore, students will
please make every effort to observe the following minimum guidelines for
practicing:
v
Pre-college
& College students
Ø A minimum of 5 days of practicing per week
is expected
Ø Beginners- 30 minutes per day
Ø 2nd year students- 45 minutes
per day
Ø 3rd year students and above- 1
hour (minimum) per day
v
Adult
students
Ø A minimum of 5 days of practicing between
lessons is expected
Ø Beginners- 30 minutes per day
Ø 2nd year students- 45 minutes
per day
Ø 3rd year students and above- 45
minutes (minimum) per day
8. If
a student arrives for their lesson unprepared (i.e. without their music or
lacking sufficient practice), I reserve the right to shorten or cancel the
lesson at the student’s expense. I have
set aside my time to teach, therefore a lack in preparation is a lack of
respect for my time.
9. Students (or parents) will purchase
all required music, books and materials in a timely manner.
10. Students
are responsible for owning the following materials for practicing at home: (All
materials are available for purchase at local music stores or harp specialty stores.)
v
A Music
Stand- a sturdy, wooden stand is recommended for the safety of your harp.
v
Metronome- I
suggest one with a loud, clicking sound.
Try them out in the store.
v
Chromatic
Tuner- students must tune their harps a minimum of once a week, tuning every
day is best for the harp
v
Tuning Key-
comes with a newly purchased harp, available at harp specialty stores
v
Assignment
Book
v
Music
11. Students
(or parents) are responsible for notifying me about any health problems I
should be aware of, what to do, and whom to notify in case of emergency.
12. Parents,
siblings, or other family members who wish to attend a student’s lessons are
welcome and must remain as quiet as possible during the lesson.
